first meets the sea

Mar 2018|Los Cabos, México

Watching a baby sea turtle or a "hatchling" struggle out of the nest and make its way to the sea is an emotional experience. On a recent shoot in Los Cabos, Mexico, Cody Easterbrook participated in a release of 13 adorable hatchlings and says it is a memory that will stay with him forever.

The Sea of Cortez and Baja California peninsula are home to five species of sea turtles - all of which are endangered. Thanks to Marine Turtle conservation groups and other local grass root organizations, many including television personality, Cody Easterbrook, have come together to help and protect the sea turtles and release them into the wild and watch as they start their new life in the ocean!

Along the way these little guys faced some struggles. Everything from footprints in the sand to the crashing waves presented obstacles, though this gauntlet is important for their survival.

Easterbrook is a staunch ocean defender and believes the release of baby turtle hatchlings to the ocean is unquestionably one of the most fascinating and enriching experiences one can ever experience.
